چکیده

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect drinking water nitrate concentration on rumen parameters and its microbial population that may affect greenhouse gases in fattening cattle. Holstein heifers (n = 24; 161 ± 19.9 kg initial BW, 183 25.3 d age) were housed individually fed ad libitum. Animals assigned 4 treatments according water: 1) Control (n=6), without NO3-; 2) Low with 44 mg/L 3) Moderate 110 NO3-, 4) High 220 NO3-. After 14 168 days ruminal content sampled determine pH, volatile fatty acids (VFA), nitrite concentration, microbiota (except for Moderate). To assess microbiota, DNA-based qPCR total bacterial (16S rRNA), dissimilatory sulfate-reducing prokaryotes (aprA), ammonia-oxidizing bacteria archaea (amoA-AOB amoA-AOA), typical complete denitrifiers (nosZ-clade I linked transformation N2O N2), anammox (hzo) determined. Rumen VFA, analyzed a mixed effects model. populations statistically treated by analysis variance applying pairwise comparisons (Fisher's least). not affected water; however, concentrations greater (P < 0.01) than (32.1 vs. 6.3 4.20 mg/L, respectively). Nitrate did populations, except complete-denitrifying I) which slightly (P=0.01) 168. In conclusion, nitrate-contaminated show significant impact but increased denitrifying potential after long term, could decrease emissions accumulation heifers.

Effects of dietary changes and yeast culture (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) on rumen microbial fermentation of Holstein heifers.

The effects of a dietary challenge to induce digestive upsets and supplementation with yeast culture on rumen microbial fermentation were studied using 12 Holstein heifers (277 +/- 28 kg of BW) fitted with a ruminal cannula, in a crossover design with 2 periods of 5 wk. In each period, after 3 wk of adaptation to a 100% forage diet, the dietary challenge consisted of increasing the amount of gr...

Digestibility, microbial protein synthesis, rumen and blood parameters in sheep fed diets containing hydroponic barley fodder

This experiment was conducted to determine the possibility of replacing part of the barley grain by hydroponic barley fodder (HBF), and evaluating its effect on digestibility, rumen parameters, microbial protein synthesis and blood parameters in sheep. Four male Kermani sheep, 18-month-old (34.7 ± 1 kg live weight) were randomly assigned to a change over 4 × 4 design and fed the experimental di...

Bacterial communities in the rumen of Holstein heifers differ when fed orchardgrass as pasture vs. hay

The rich and diverse microbiota of the rumen provides ruminant animals the capacity to utilize highly fibrous feedstuffs as their energy source, but there is surprisingly little information on the composition of the microbiome of ruminants fed all-forage diets, despite the importance of such agricultural production systems worldwide. In three 28-day periods, three ruminally-cannulated Holstein ...

Metagenomic analysis of rumen microbial population in dairy heifers fed a high grain diet supplemented with dicarboxylic acids or polyphenols

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of two feed supplements on rumen bacterial communities of heifers fed a high grain diet. Six Holstein-Friesian heifers received one of the following dietary treatments according to a Latin square design: no supplement (control, C), 60 g/day of fumarate-malate (organic acid, O) and 100 g/day of polyphenol-essential oil (P). Rumen fl...

Rumen microbial population, movement of ingesta from the rumen, and water intake of steers fed apple pomace diets.

The effects of apple pomace diets on rumen microbial population, movement of ingesta from the rumen, and water intake were studied in two trials with beef steers. Trial 1 was a 5 • 5 Latin square in which five ruminal fistulated steers were fed either corn silage plus cottonseed meal (CSM), apple pomace plus CSM, apple pomace plus urea, apple pomace plus urea and starch, or apple pomace plus ur...
